Brand development for a Travel Film Festival at BFI Southbank
Client Brief
BFI's annual Travel Film Festival, Adventure — Explore, requires a new look for its 2020 travel docu-films showcase. The design should capture the excitement of travel and contain imagery from the season's films.
Objective
Deliver a brand identity, film listings brochure and ticketing solution that communicates the essence of travel, without being overly nostalgic or cliched. The identity should be bold and flexible so that it can be repurposed for future seasons.
Action
Create a visual language for the festival using stills from the various films, treated in the style of faded travel photographs. Dynamic maxi type occupies the negative space within the brochure, taking the reader on a journey around the page as the eye pieces together the letters to form 'Adventure' and 'Explore'.
Result
A clean, strong typographic design and kit of parts that can be used flexibly across all collateral. Tickets are designed in the style of a luggage tag as a point of differentiation for the festival, as well as a souvenir of the event.
